[00:00:00] Low Ride Welcome back to the survival and basic
[00:00:15] fat ass podcast. Again, it looks like with Chuck. I don't sell it to the regular public, you know, something along that line, or maybe inflation, where all of a sudden people realize, hey, I'm not going to be able to buy more gas tomorrow because oil just went up because the Middle East is crazy and something happened. And all of a sudden nobody's selling or they're selling
[00:01:42] it for $50 a gallon or who knows what. You can't have stuff freeze in while you're in your house.
[00:03:03] Then, but you need containers for water.
[00:03:06] You should, when you leave, right? You're gonna need to have a way to find water, get water, and carry water. That's like essential, most important thing go to, right? Then we need to think about shelter. And shelter, I'm not necessarily talking about, oh, I can build a lean to in the woods with a tarp.
[00:04:20] Well, yeah, that's cool, and we'll get there.
[00:04:23] But shelter, I mean, do you have warm clothes?
[00:04:26] Are you, your car has heat, different. I would talk about some kind of shoes to get home. Some of us wear like dress shoes for work. I'm not that guy. But if you were, that kind of thing or a woman with like high heels or even just not good walking shoes, somehow the fashion standards don't
[00:05:40] exactly apply to comfort and, you know, day that's all you're allowed where you live, or that would be a good survival knife,
[00:07:00] something like that.
[00:07:01] Those are the things that would be essential
[00:07:05] and excellent to have on hand, all right? but some kind of like 2000 calorie, like granola bar brick that like laughs a lifetime. Now I'm sure that is the last thing I'm ever gonna wanna eat, but if I'm starving, it probably is something that I'd want to eat. I also have, I know my Patreon supply always
[00:08:20] has those 72 hour food packets that you can get.
[00:08:25] I have some of wanted to set a premise. You can check out our Get Home Bag episode. I think it might be the 72 hour bag or something like that and you'll
[00:09:41] see a lot of things in there that Cook stuff because that stuff would be essential. I think also I really need to do an episode where we talk about the different water pumps and kind of check them out. I And then when I went to the Palmetto State Armory does an event where you can kind of everybody's there and you can check it all out, it made it awesome to be able to get into the new gear and really break it down. So that's nice. Sorry, a little sidetracked, but that's how I do it sometimes.
[00:12:20] And I appreciate you bearing with me.
[00:12:23] We'll just blame Kevin for sabotaging us this morning
[00:12:26] trying to put his own health I mean, man, if you did like 300 blackout with a suppressor and you did something short like an eight inch barrel You could probably put something together pretty cool People always talk about well, you're you know You're just making yourself a target if you walk around with a battle rifle or whatever Well one an eight inch rifle eight inch barrel isn't exactly what I would call a battle rifle, but on the flip side I
[00:13:45] would say that
[00:13:47] you need to pretty quickly. So I would say if I'm planning the perfect world, I don't even have this set up. I do have an SBR. I do have a suppressor. I even have live thermal scopes. I don't have night vision. To me, that's even a step up. But again, if I was traveling, I'd rather
[00:15:00] have night vision than thermal. But again, it suppressor, that's still an issue. Anyway, so I would say carrying about 250 rounds and then deciding what you take with you based on how much your journey is. You know, realistically,
[00:16:20] I'd probably want to carry the weight of about 100 a lot of self-defense disciplines, I guess is the word I would use.
[00:17:45] I would look at all the wandering mobs, because most people barely even have flashlights. And obviously, if you're
[00:19:03] fumbling through the woods with a giant, you know, flashlight
[00:19:06] beam waving all over the place, you're going around a bigger town, that kind of stuff. Same thing. You're not gonna wanna walk through Atlanta on your way home. You're gonna wanna go around things. Now, obviously this adds miles time and it's gonna change your food supply. It's gonna change your access to water.
[00:20:20] It's gonna change everything and slow you down.
[00:20:24] So that's really the thing I would be doing, if I lost my vehicle is I would be trying to find a bike. I mean, obviously a four wheeler and e-bike,
[00:21:42] any of this stuff would be cooler,
[00:21:44] but any kind of bicycle is from the crazy of the world, you know, and he just took the trail.
[00:23:00] And you know, he still ran into trouble and EMP, after stuff. It's funny, the studies are so all over the place. People talk about it might be 10% of the vehicles are affected, it might be 25%.
[00:24:25] It might be 70%. reasonable and that's on a trip you're trying to cover miles you don't want to stop all the time. Now in my crazy old age paranoia I end up stopping at a half a tank. I'm like oh I got to fill it up and whenever I get where I'm going I just you know what I got to fill the tank before we park and pull in and the wife's like ah And then now I go and I don't have anything and I'm stuck and it sucks. Uh, getting the flat tire. Oh, I took the jack out to work on that other vehicle or I needed it to, you know, pry something or move something, whatever, you know, life happens, right?
[00:27:01] We all do different things that, you know,
[00:27:04] are going to affect our safety and our security,
[00:28:07] to implement these things, I think the more you can build up a life that's going to be secure, you can build up a life that starts to flow easy. And also, the more you develop skills,
[00:28:13] the less you're reliant on the things that are outside of you, right? So if you're
[00:28:21] Steven Segal, right, you might not be as worried about having the guns, you know, or whatever. Actually, one of the things in the book I'm listening to now, they keep talking about the water flavorings. And they also have the caffeine that you can add to the water. I can make a big difference in crappy filtered water, not tasting like crap. But I imagine if I'm walking home and nobody else has water and it's hot and I'm unhappy, I
[00:29:45] imagine that any water is going to taste need to be taken care of, you know learning, hey can I build a shelter that's gonna keep me dry? Hey I realize these shoes do suck and aren't comfortable. I need wool socks. I need socks that are gonna keep
[00:31:02] my feet warm and dry because hiking in wet socks will be a hellish nightmare and the Hobo Fish ain't kit, right? I mean, that's the thing. You know, you always have the little tin and you have hooks and line and all that stuff, but these are the things that are gonna be like little help, little game changer, a sunblock, right? Sunblock is a big thing. I think in the book, they mentioned having a ball cap,
[00:32:21] something to keep the sun out of your face and whatever
[00:32:25] when you're hiking out in the sun all day.
[00:32:28] Bug spray, right? and setting them up. The big thing is when something bad happens, you go through before you leave your vehicle and you sort out, hey, I don't need these items. They're not relevant to my situation where I am, this environment, this trip from here to there, they're just going to slow me down. That's very possible., you need to search out your vehicle. Hey, is there any food in here? What's useful? Do I have anything that would help me in any way? I know my car has like a separate first aid kit that I keep in there that's not in my get-home bag. That's something I would grab. The wife's probably got like gum or mince or something.
[00:35:03] Some little pick me up like that probably is going to be better than not taking it,
[00:35:07] right? So we'll probably go on like 1140, 1145, something like that. Might be a little bit of a short episode, but it should be great. And no, I'm excited to do that. So you might want to check in for that one. And hey, there might be more future things, but yeah, he's the author of that Going Home series and there's like, I think he's got book 12 out now.
[00:36:23] So that's kind of exciting.
