[00:01:46] Kevin and Chuck

[00:01:48] Well, today we're going to talk about home defense weapons. We're talking guns. We're talking other stuff.

[00:01:58] You know, there are other options. People have limitations where they live and what they have access to and honestly consequences with what you do with your stuff.

[00:02:08] All that comes into play and has a big effect on how you approach choosing the right self-defense weapon.

[00:02:18] Now, it used to be for, I'd say, I don't know, my whole childhood, I'd say there was like a good 50-year period that it was common knowledge.

[00:02:31] A shotgun is the best home defense gun. There really was no debate about it and I feel like times have changed.

[00:02:40] I don't put shotgun as number one, but it might be number one for you and we're going to talk about that.

[00:02:48] So there's a lot of different things out there that you might want to consider and think about and we're going to cover all that.

[00:02:57] Kevin, thoughts?

[00:02:59] Yeah, I mean, I think it's pretty common that people will have a shotgun for home defense next to the bedroom.

[00:03:10] AR-15, handguns, different things, but a lot of the time I'll ask people specifically and a lot of times the answer is shotgun.

[00:03:20] Whether that's the best choice, I don't know that that's the case, but I mean that's what I have next to my bed.

[00:03:29] And I think we could come up with a lot of better options. I could probably have a better option.

[00:03:35] But let's talk about why that is.

[00:03:38] Exactly. So on the nightstand, I have the handgun.

[00:03:44] I think H&K, VP9SK, you guys have heard me plug it before.

[00:03:51] Something 9mm easy goes to work, that kind of thing.

[00:03:56] And that sits right there on the nightstand and easy to access.

[00:04:02] People are like, oh, you can't leave it there all day because your little kiddies will come in and get it.

[00:04:07] Well, no, because it's on my person when I'm not in my bed. It goes that way.

[00:04:13] But maybe you don't live in a good state and maybe that's not an option for you to have it on your person and carry you with you every day.

[00:04:22] Now, you're saying well why the handgun and not the long gun? Well, we're going to talk about it.

[00:04:27] So first let's talk pros and cons of a shotgun.

[00:04:31] Now, like I said, shotgun was always kind of the go-to for everybody.

[00:04:38] And they were like, oh, this is what you need, right?

[00:04:42] Well, the reason that is because the shotgun you don't really need a lot of training and ability to hit somebody.

[00:04:55] Basically, that's what it comes down to.

[00:04:58] You're dark, you're confused, disoriented from just waking up.

[00:05:03] Maybe a gun isn't what you should be handling.

[00:05:06] But that's where the shotgun is going to be your most likely to hit something.

[00:05:12] Right.

[00:05:13] All right, those are all true statements now.

[00:05:16] And a lot of people, especially in the day, guns were kind of something people don't actually use.

[00:05:25] Everybody had guns, but people didn't go shooting and they weren't at the range every day.

[00:05:32] Most of the guys I know who were hunters were shooting four or five times a year.

[00:05:37] And that's when they maybe once or twice to sight and make sure the gun sighted in.

[00:05:42] And then they'd hit two or three deer and that would be hunting, right?

[00:05:47] Yeah.

[00:05:48] And that was their handgun stuff.

[00:05:50] I know a lot of cops to this day who are like, oh, I shoot a gun when I go qualify.

[00:05:56] And that's it.

[00:05:57] That's the only one to year.

[00:05:59] And that's, you know, five, 10 shots that they may or may not hit a man sized target.

[00:06:05] And that's terrifying.

[00:06:07] It's terrifying because these are our protectors.

[00:06:10] You know, these are the guys after we watch all these movies, we imagine that somebody's

[00:06:15] holding me hostage and they're going to shoot them in the forehead while we're standing next to them.

[00:06:20] Well, there are a lot of cops out there that could do that, but there's probably a lot more cops

[00:06:26] out there that couldn't do that.

[00:06:28] That ended up accidentally shooting you in the dick and then.

[00:06:30] And yeah, exactly.

[00:06:32] You get shot in the ankle while he's trying to shoot the bad guy in the head.

[00:06:36] You know, there was a video a while back of a cop going into a house and a dog came barking at him

[00:06:44] and he put his hand out in front of him to stop the dog and he ended up shooting through his hand

[00:06:50] and not hitting the dog because.

[00:06:54] Yeah, because your hands in front of you.

[00:06:56] You can't see where you're doing.

[00:06:58] I read a news article recently about a naked guy having some sort of mental breakdown.

[00:07:06] And I think it was Manhattan and he was running in and out of traffic and, you know, just being

[00:07:12] a general asshole and the police showed up and I understand not wanting to tackle a sweaty

[00:07:17] naked man running in and out of traffic.

[00:07:19] I would not want that.

[00:07:20] Yes.

[00:07:21] But they fired nine rounds at him.

[00:07:23] They missed him.

[00:07:24] They hit some lady in the hip and they had another lady in the head and the crazy guy

[00:07:30] ended up getting charged with murder because because they died while he was committing a crime.

[00:07:35] Right.

[00:07:36] They do that.

[00:07:37] Yeah, that's the fun trick.

[00:07:38] Right?

[00:07:39] Yeah.

[00:07:40] No, I never understand that.

[00:07:42] So I don't know.

[00:07:45] There's a lot of crazy that goes on with that.

[00:07:48] But so what comes to mind is when people think about buying a home defense shotgun, they

[00:07:56] think something that's like tactical, right?

[00:07:59] Like a pistol grip.

[00:08:01] Now I actually own a version of the Mossberg 590, which is I'm showing a picture now,

[00:08:09] but it's the it's the tactical version.

[00:08:12] And I mean this has a pistol grip.

[00:08:15] I don't have a pistol grip on mine because that wasn't really my trick.

[00:08:18] But anyway, that in some states, especially like New York or something like that, how

[00:08:27] is it going to play out when that's sitting in front of the jury and the average person

[00:08:33] in your community?

[00:08:35] Are they if a bunch of Californians or New Yorkers or even in Chicago, they see that's

[00:08:43] the weapon.

[00:08:44] In Chicago, they might think that's reasonable because they're seeing people get shot every

[00:08:48] day and they're terrified of getting shot.

[00:08:50] I understand wanting to take yourself defense a little more seriously.

[00:08:55] Yeah.

[00:08:56] But yeah, the problem with that in Chicago, Chicago runs the whole state.

[00:09:00] So you live out in the middle of nowhere in southern Illinois and you still got to

[00:09:07] have the same, you know, same laws that Chicago does.

[00:09:13] Not unlike New York City runs.

[00:09:15] Yeah.

[00:09:16] I lived in southern Illinois in the middle of nowhere and just getting a permit, you

[00:09:20] had to get a permit for a shotgun.

[00:09:22] Like you had to get a permit for everything, you know, but whatever.

[00:09:27] I'm not going to debate gun laws in different states because that wasn't the goal.

[00:09:32] I rate and the vein will start stop start popping out of my forehead.

[00:09:36] And yeah, no, exactly.

[00:09:39] That's what happens.

[00:09:40] So what I'm saying is you may consider something like a standard Mossberg 500 with like the wood

[00:09:47] stock and more traditional because that you have for hunting and whatever.

[00:09:54] And guess what?

[00:09:55] Turns out they're almost identical in function and effect.

[00:09:59] Obviously, there's no pistol grip, but my version with no pistol grip and that classy

[00:10:05] wood version, you know, grandpa's old shotgun is going to shoot just the same.

[00:10:12] Now again, are you keeping it oiled and clean and cycling it and making sure that things

[00:10:17] function properly?

[00:10:18] Yes.

[00:10:19] That comes into play.

[00:10:20] I didn't say grandpa's neglected shotgun that has cobwebs and dirt and, you know,

[00:10:26] somebody was leaning on it in the dirt and it has four inches of mud packed in

[00:10:31] the barrel.

[00:10:32] I'm not saying that's the one that's going to function the same, but I'm saying that,

[00:10:37] you know, it can have a wood stock or a metal stock or, you know, a cool, you know, plastic,

[00:10:44] whatever polymer grips and whatever.

[00:10:47] And it's going to be just as good now.

[00:10:50] So here are my concerns.

[00:10:52] People always say, all right, well, the shotgun, I can get up, I can go shoot at anybody

[00:10:57] and I can hit anything that's moving.

[00:10:59] Well, the problem is what happens when somebody takes a hostage, grabs your little kid or grabs

[00:11:04] your wife.

[00:11:05] Now you're kind of useless with that shotgun.

[00:11:08] And then you're like, well, Chuck, I put slugs in mine instead and so I'm better.

[00:11:14] Well, okay, but if you're using it and like hoping it's a rifle, then just get a rifle.

[00:11:20] Like you just defeated the whole shotgun thing.

[00:11:23] Right.

[00:11:24] People also loaded with buckshot or a slug.

[00:11:28] You also have to, I mean, this goes for most firearms.

[00:11:31] You have to be aware of the walls, you know, what's behind the walls in your house.

[00:11:37] You know what I mean?

[00:11:38] Drywall doesn't stop bullets.

[00:11:39] Even two by four framing if you're lucky enough to hit it, isn't going to stop it.

[00:11:44] And the thing is, so people are like, oh, well, the shotgun's not going to go through

[00:11:49] the sheetrock.

[00:11:50] Well, if you have any kind of effective round that's going to hurt the guy, it's

[00:11:55] going to go through the sheetrock.

[00:11:56] Yeah.

[00:11:57] You're going with birdshot.

[00:11:58] You're not going to put somebody down, you know, might not go through the drywall and

[00:12:02] kill somebody in the adjoining room, but you're not going to kill somebody that's in your

[00:12:07] house either.

[00:12:08] Now, that's one of the things that, you know, you want to think about and be aware of.

[00:12:13] You're always thinking about what's behind your target when you're using a gun and

[00:12:17] people are not always doing that and they should be.

[00:12:20] So that's something you might want to take into account.

[00:12:24] Now, next let's kind of move on.

[00:12:26] Now same thing too, right?

[00:12:28] So somebody's holding a hostage.

[00:12:30] You're not shooting them also now.

[00:12:33] I know a lot of states as soon as that guy walks out your front door, you can't really

[00:12:37] do anything and you're kind of limited.

[00:12:40] But if somebody is running away with your baby or whatever, there's nothing you can

[00:12:44] do with that shotgun as he's 20 and 30 feet away.

[00:12:47] I mean, obviously you can annoy him and injure his leg a little bit, but it's

[00:12:53] not going to cripple him on the ground.

[00:12:55] Most likely.

[00:12:56] Obviously you shoot somebody in the face with a target load.

[00:12:59] It's going to be a problem, but the further they get away, the less effective your

[00:13:04] options are becoming and that's something to definitely take into account with a

[00:13:08] shotgun.

[00:13:09] Right.

[00:13:10] So we don't really know what the range was that Dick Cheney shot that guy in

[00:13:16] the face from.

[00:13:17] It was pretty close.

[00:13:18] He definitely messed that dude's face up pretty good.

[00:13:23] Kevin, that's horrible.

[00:13:26] Why would you bring up such ugliness on a friendly show that we're recording in the

[00:13:30] morning where people are drinking their coffee and enjoying pleasantness?

[00:13:34] So let's move on to the handgun.

[00:13:36] Now a handgun, one, the effectiveness you have with the handgun is relative to

[00:13:44] how much training you have, right?

[00:13:46] How much time you spend at the range.

[00:13:48] Now again, if I had zero time at the range and I was not effective with

[00:13:52] the handgun, it would not be my first choice or my only choice that, you know,

[00:13:58] at having a weapon that's right there and available.

[00:14:02] Now, the handgun, like I said, it has a lot of options where, you know, they

[00:14:10] sell those fancy safes where you can, you know, the biometric safes.

[00:14:14] They can put your hand on it and it'll open and they'll open with a key or

[00:14:18] like three or four digit code and people are like, I can't possibly remember four

[00:14:23] numbers right when I wake up or, you know, whatever.

[00:14:26] We've had these arguments and whatever.

[00:14:29] Mine isn't locked up when I'm there because it's right next to me and I'm not

[00:14:33] worried about it.

[00:14:33] And you could say, well, you're asleep and yet, well, okay, that's, there's

[00:14:37] a level of risk that I'm willing to overcome that the gun isn't going to

[00:14:42] get up and shoot me while I'm sleeping or something like that.

[00:14:46] No, is it under my pillow?

[00:14:47] No, I'm not at that level of risk.

[00:14:49] All right.

[00:14:50] Um, but is it within arm's length?

[00:14:53] Yes, it is.

[00:14:54] Okay.

[00:14:55] So that's something a personal preference.

[00:14:58] Now, would I rather have a short barrel rifle with a suppressor right next

[00:15:05] to my bed?

[00:15:05] Would that be more effective in my opinion?

[00:15:07] Yes.

[00:15:08] Yes, it would.

[00:15:09] And we're going to talk about that in a minute, but the negative

[00:15:13] that I have to that is, and why I prefer the handgun is I don't want to

[00:15:19] leave that rifle sitting out because of people and animals and things in my

[00:15:24] house all day long that I don't feel comfortable with it sitting there in

[00:15:28] an exposed kind of area and whatever.

[00:15:31] And that's a preference.

[00:15:32] If I lived alone, if I lived with me and my tactical wife and we just

[00:15:37] hang out, then I would, I would say that the rifle is going to be my go to

[00:15:44] that's right there next to the bed.

[00:15:46] But that all things being taken into account, the handgun is going to

[00:15:52] be the right choice for me and my situation when I'm worried about

[00:15:57] the different guns that are there.

[00:15:59] So that's something you guys might, you know, again, it's people always

[00:16:02] ask me, well, what's the best handgun that I should carry?

[00:16:06] I do have the 590.

[00:16:09] What's the best handgun that I should carry?

[00:16:12] And I would say the one that you're going to carry, you know, people

[00:16:17] always want to have something that's going to fit nice concealed and,

[00:16:22] you know, be accessible and comfortable and, you know, having a big 45.

[00:16:28] Yeah, maybe you think that's the most effective weapon, but, you

[00:16:33] know, 1911 or something.

[00:16:35] But having that next to on your hip all the time is a pain in the ass when

[00:16:40] you're getting in and out of the car unless you have straight open

[00:16:43] carry laws.

[00:16:45] And in North Carolina where I live, we have open carry laws, but I'm

[00:16:50] not comfortable walking around just brandishing a big gun all the time

[00:16:54] in people's faces.

[00:16:56] Now am I the dummy who's like, yeah, somebody's going to come up

[00:16:59] and grab it out of your holster and shoot it?

[00:17:02] And I'm like, no, no, not likely.

[00:17:04] And I'm not saying not likely because I'm so cool and I'm going to stop them.

[00:17:09] I'm saying if you don't have the angle right and think about things,

[00:17:12] a lot of the leather, like, you know, tight holsters, you don't just slip

[00:17:17] it out.

[00:17:17] If they don't just pop out.

[00:17:19] And the ones that are like kydex and stuff that do just pop out usually

[00:17:24] have little locking mechanisms or clips that, you know, hold it in

[00:17:28] place and keep it effective.

[00:17:31] So that's something to, you know, be aware of.

[00:17:34] So anyway, handgun, excellent choice.

[00:17:38] And like I said, it's what's going to, what you're going to feel

[00:17:41] comfortable leaving out.

[00:17:42] Like I said, if you're not going to leave the SBR on your, you

[00:17:46] know, your nightstand, then having it in the cabinet, but I don't

[00:17:50] have a handgun because I'm going to use my SBR, short rail rifle.

[00:17:55] The reason, if that's not more effective, right?

[00:17:58] You need something you can get at right away.

[00:18:01] Now, do you have your short rail rifle accessible somewhere that's

[00:18:07] nearby and you can maybe get to it pretty quickly also if the

[00:18:11] situation changes?

[00:18:13] I would say absolutely a good idea and something I would kind

[00:18:17] of figure out how to get in there.

[00:18:19] Yeah.

[00:18:22] Yeah, I think that one thing to think about is, you know, when

[00:18:26] you're talking about a firearm near your bed, somebody breaking

[00:18:30] into the house, you know, you're looking at something you want

[00:18:34] to be able to deal with close quarters stuff.

[00:18:37] You know what I mean?

[00:18:38] A handgun is great for that.

[00:18:40] A shotgun is great for that.

[00:18:43] But, you know, if somebody's running up your yard, you

[00:18:47] know, it's maybe not the best weapon that you want.

[00:18:52] Somebody is breaking into your house and you have to go explore

[00:18:56] the noise down in the kitchen when your wife wakes you up

[00:18:59] because she heard something.

[00:19:00] You know, maybe a handgun is ideal for that.

[00:19:05] But it's not, you know, different firearms for different

[00:19:08] situations and having something next to your bed as your

[00:19:13] option is great.

[00:19:15] And then you can pick what you want to pick, what's best for

[00:19:19] you when you're awake, when you're aware of what's going on,

[00:19:22] you know, when somebody's banging on the front door, that

[00:19:24] might be a whole different, you know, whole different

[00:19:27] situation.

[00:19:28] Right.

[00:19:30] No, exactly.

[00:19:31] You know, you need to keep your options.

[00:19:34] Now, Brian, the listener mentioned too, like having

[00:19:38] a dog to give you that early warning system to give you

[00:19:41] something kind of an alert, having cameras, having

[00:19:44] motion sensors, having alarms, you know, things.

[00:19:48] All these things are something that's going to give you

[00:19:51] an edge and alert you at a time and, you know, give

[00:19:54] you another moment to prepare.

[00:19:56] You know, it's always, it's like why we lock our doors

[00:19:59] in our house, right?

[00:20:00] Like why you have the deadbolt or whatever.

[00:20:02] Right.

[00:20:02] When you're sitting on the couch with the wife eating

[00:20:04] popcorn, having two seconds to be like, oh, I'm

[00:20:08] going to grab my gun and, you know, and I just

[00:20:10] mean from your hip and kind of get it ready or

[00:20:12] whatever is going to give you an edge over somebody

[00:20:16] walking in and you're all kind of, you know,

[00:20:19] right?

[00:20:19] They just walked in the front door and there they

[00:20:21] are.

[00:20:22] Right.

[00:20:22] Right.

[00:20:23] Exactly.

[00:20:24] So having some kind of early warning system, be that

[00:20:27] dogs, be that an alarm, be that a driveway alarm,

[00:20:32] you know, any of those things is going to give

[00:20:34] you an edge and something that you want to, you

[00:20:37] know, think about and be aware of.

[00:20:39] So that's something you may want to take in, you

[00:20:44] know, account and consider before you, you know,

[00:20:48] choose the right option.

[00:20:50] Because like I said, how much time you have is

[00:20:52] going to affect everything.

[00:20:54] Um, so next let's talk about the short barrel

[00:20:58] rifles and or a regular AR 15.

[00:21:01] I stay short barrel rifle just moving around

[00:21:04] in the house.

[00:21:05] That seems like more to go to.

[00:21:07] But honestly, the moving around in the house,

[00:21:10] mine becomes almost, you know, it's basically

[00:21:15] that 16 inches once I put a suppressor on it.

[00:21:18] Anyway, this isn't mine, but this is a picture

[00:21:23] of a similar setup.

[00:21:25] Um, you have the short barrel with a

[00:21:29] suppressor obviously suppressing the noise

[00:21:32] inside a house is huge.

[00:21:34] People have no idea how brutal it is firing

[00:21:37] a weapon inside the house or inside a room.

[00:21:40] It's pretty bad.

[00:21:42] Um, you definitely, it's cool if you can have

[00:21:45] hearing protection nearby and, you know, or you

[00:21:49] can count on some hearing loss.

[00:21:51] If you don't, you know, take some kind

[00:21:55] of preventative steps is the, the jokes on

[00:21:58] you already have hearing loss.

[00:21:59] So there's not going to be any issues.

[00:22:02] Yeah.

[00:22:02] I'm already at an even playing field here where

[00:22:05] it's, you know, now that's exactly right.

[00:22:08] You had something to take into account.

[00:22:10] Now short barrel rifle.

[00:22:12] Here's why.

[00:22:13] One, I'm accurate.

[00:22:15] Two, I can not even, I need less training

[00:22:19] to be accurate, you know, shooting somebody

[00:22:22] holding a hostage or something like that.

[00:22:25] I need less training than I do to be the

[00:22:27] guy with the handgun who can be accurate at that.

[00:22:29] Now I would like to think that most of our

[00:22:32] listeners are accurate up to 15 feet with a

[00:22:35] handgun where you're hitting somebody, but

[00:22:38] also there is a difference when you're nervous

[00:22:41] or as we discussed earlier, when you just

[00:22:44] woke up, when you're, you know, that kind of

[00:22:46] thing.

[00:22:48] Um, there is a, uh, you know, a difference

[00:22:53] in how effective and how, you know, how

[00:22:57] precise you might be in that spur of the

[00:23:00] moment, but you know, that's up to you.

[00:23:03] You have to decide what's, you know, right

[00:23:05] for you and, and whatever and, and what works

[00:23:08] for your family, um, you know, for protection.

[00:23:11] But that short barrel rifle, they step

[00:23:13] out your door, you're going to have some

[00:23:16] kind of, uh, you're going to have some

[00:23:20] kind of range with it.

[00:23:21] You're going to have, you know, the

[00:23:23] ability to kind of really deal with

[00:23:25] multiple attackers.

[00:23:27] I mean, that's the thing too.

[00:23:29] People, you know, imagine a scenario where

[00:23:31] it's one burglar and he comes in with like

[00:23:34] a TV.

[00:23:35] Well, yeah, you know, a TV in his hand on

[00:23:37] the way out the door and, you know, like

[00:23:39] it's not, it's not necessarily going to be

[00:23:42] that, you know, sometimes it is the home

[00:23:45] invasion of four and five people.

[00:23:47] You know, a lot of these city places,

[00:23:49] people work together that they call it

[00:23:51] gangs.

[00:23:52] I don't know if you've ever heard of

[00:23:53] that, but, um, they'll have multiple

[00:23:56] attackers and dealing with multiple

[00:23:59] attackers, especially if they have guns,

[00:24:02] if you just have a handgun, you're

[00:24:04] probably going to be outgunned.

[00:24:07] You know, I mean, it's the way it's

[00:24:09] going to go.

[00:24:10] Um, whereas when you have a rifle,

[00:24:12] you're trained with the rifle and

[00:24:14] you're effective with the rifle,

[00:24:16] that's going to make a big difference

[00:24:17] and you're going to be able to,

[00:24:19] you know, do different things and

[00:24:21] keep, keep things, you know, on a more

[00:24:25] even playing field.

[00:24:27] Right.

[00:24:28] Right.

[00:24:29] Uh, you know, I heard somebody talking

[00:24:31] about this, uh, about home defense and,

[00:24:34] and, you know, that sort of, uh, um,

[00:24:37] waking up in the middle of the night

[00:24:39] in the dark house and, uh, you know,

[00:24:41] they say, you know, once they hear

[00:24:44] the shotgun rack, that'll, oh, yeah,

[00:24:46] they're going to run away.

[00:24:47] You don't have to worry about it.

[00:24:49] You don't even have to shoot it.

[00:24:50] They don't even have to see it.

[00:24:51] That's kind of bullshit though.

[00:24:53] You know what I mean?

[00:24:55] If you're, if somebody's breaking in

[00:24:56] your house in the middle of the night,

[00:24:58] while you're there, they're assuming

[00:25:00] that there's going to be some sort

[00:25:01] of bullshit going on.

[00:25:03] You know what I mean?

[00:25:04] That's not going to scare somebody

[00:25:05] off if they're already willing to

[00:25:06] do that, you know,

[00:25:08] right?

[00:25:08] It depends who your attacker is.

[00:25:10] If it's the neighbor kid.

[00:25:11] Yeah, probably.

[00:25:13] Now, if he's like, oh, I can get

[00:25:14] some, you know, extra money for,

[00:25:16] you know, go buy some weed or

[00:25:17] whatever, cause that guy probably

[00:25:19] leaves a $50 bill in his billfold

[00:25:21] on the dresser.

[00:25:23] Yeah, he might be scared.

[00:25:25] But if you get, you know,

[00:25:27] hardened criminal with the gang

[00:25:28] tattoos and everything, you know,

[00:25:30] with the whatever stuff tattooed

[00:25:32] on his forehead and whatever, you

[00:25:34] know, and it's probably not

[00:25:37] going to be the scary deterrent

[00:25:39] that you believe it is.

[00:25:41] Yeah, right.

[00:25:43] Right.

[00:25:44] Yeah.

[00:25:44] I mean, I was thinking about

[00:25:45] that getting some face tattoos

[00:25:47] just to just to, you know,

[00:25:49] put everybody in the neighborhood

[00:25:50] on notice just in case.

[00:25:52] But, you know, we'll see how it goes.

[00:25:55] Yeah.

[00:25:56] So those are my three go to,

[00:25:58] like I said, I think my personal

[00:25:59] preference is

[00:26:03] is to have a, you know,

[00:26:05] some kind of AR 15.

[00:26:07] And like I said, preferably

[00:26:08] something that suppressed,

[00:26:10] set preferably something that short

[00:26:12] barrel, you know, that

[00:26:14] then you have the maneuverability,

[00:26:16] you know, a 16 inch barrel

[00:26:18] with a suppressor on the end of it.

[00:26:21] That you're you're a lot

[00:26:23] in the hallway, right?

[00:26:25] You know, moving around the tight

[00:26:26] corners and but I got to say

[00:26:29] the winner on everything is training,

[00:26:31] training, training and,

[00:26:33] you know, understanding how to move,

[00:26:35] understanding how to look around

[00:26:37] corners, maybe not giving away

[00:26:40] your position by racking the shotgun

[00:26:42] before you've even moved into the

[00:26:43] space.

[00:26:44] I mean, that's all you need is to

[00:26:46] you don't know what's going on in the

[00:26:48] next room and you hear

[00:26:50] noises and two guys talking,

[00:26:52] you stand in the hallway and

[00:26:54] racking the shotgun is your go to

[00:26:56] move.

[00:26:57] Then they're like, oh, let's

[00:26:59] get ready and watch for what's

[00:27:01] coming around the corner.

[00:27:02] You know, that's what's going to

[00:27:03] happen.

[00:27:04] So that's not exactly

[00:27:07] the power play.

[00:27:08] Now maybe you hang out over at

[00:27:11] Biden's house and his wife

[00:27:13] is going to come out and just

[00:27:14] fire a couple of rounds into the

[00:27:16] yard. That was always the go to.

[00:27:20] You know, maybe that's what you

[00:27:21] want to look at that to me

[00:27:23] is just shooting a gun off into

[00:27:25] the dark, especially when there's

[00:27:27] secret service agents out there

[00:27:29] or whatever.

[00:27:30] Probably not the go to that I would

[00:27:32] choose.

[00:27:33] But you know, I'm not at that

[00:27:34] level of sophistication.

[00:27:36] So it's hard for me to say.

[00:27:41] I would say next thing

[00:27:44] you want to think about ammo.

[00:27:45] No, I didn't dig as much into ammo

[00:27:47] as as I maybe could have.

[00:27:50] But I got to say with a shotgun,

[00:27:52] I would probably want some

[00:27:54] kind of heavy slug like

[00:27:56] a like buckshot, something

[00:27:59] like that.

[00:28:00] Or sorry, I said slug.

[00:28:02] A heavy shot round.

[00:28:03] Sorry. And

[00:28:05] but you're going to say Dragon's

[00:28:06] Breath because Dragon's house is on

[00:28:08] fire. Everybody's going to try

[00:28:10] and they ain't getting shit

[00:28:12] like they want to loot all your

[00:28:13] stuff. Nope.

[00:28:14] Not if it's burned to the ground.

[00:28:16] That's right.

[00:28:17] That's that's not going to happen,

[00:28:19] right?

[00:28:19] Or they have those little

[00:28:21] Fletchit like they're like little

[00:28:23] razor blades kind of thing.

[00:28:24] That might be, you know, a good

[00:28:26] round to have.

[00:28:29] They have little balls that are

[00:28:30] tied together with string that

[00:28:32] you know, kind of there's

[00:28:34] a lot of good rounds out there for

[00:28:36] that.

[00:28:37] I would say for defending my

[00:28:39] home, I do like Hollow Point

[00:28:41] Browns.

[00:28:42] People are like, oh, cop killers

[00:28:44] doesn't they used to say and it's

[00:28:46] weird because now I've heard people

[00:28:47] describe cop

[00:28:48] describe cop killers as a different

[00:28:51] type around. But I don't know.

[00:28:52] They say that about hollow points.

[00:28:54] That was always the thing.

[00:28:55] I guess then cops got vests and

[00:28:57] then that kind of became completely

[00:28:58] irrelevant because that

[00:29:01] all point is like ideal for

[00:29:03] a vest and you're like, wait,

[00:29:05] that you made it easier to stop

[00:29:07] it. And yeah.

[00:29:08] But no, in your house,

[00:29:10] hollow points are great because

[00:29:12] you have less

[00:29:14] over penetration, right?

[00:29:16] The bullets not going as far.

[00:29:18] You know, it's not going through

[00:29:19] somebody and through the sheetrock

[00:29:21] most likely.

[00:29:22] Right. Again, you always want to be

[00:29:25] aware and thinking about

[00:29:27] what's behind your target.

[00:29:28] But the more

[00:29:30] you can slow that round down,

[00:29:32] the better it's going to be.

[00:29:33] And that's where you want to

[00:29:35] think about.

[00:29:36] Right. And honestly, shooting in

[00:29:38] your house is extremely dangerous.

[00:29:41] You know, things ricochet.

[00:29:43] Things go all to your hearing.

[00:29:45] Bad for everything.

[00:29:46] But yeah, that's where we're at on

[00:29:49] that. Now, Kevin,

[00:29:52] you're familiar with states where

[00:29:54] you don't want to have guns

[00:29:55] and you don't want to have

[00:29:57] all this crappy stuff in your house.

[00:29:59] Now, what are some other options

[00:30:01] that you might consider?

[00:30:02] What do you keep in your in your

[00:30:04] hat? Well, we don't want to give

[00:30:06] away your personal information, but

[00:30:08] you're fellow New Yorkers.

[00:30:09] What are you? Your sex, your bed.

[00:30:12] Yeah. Well, I mean, first off,

[00:30:14] I would say a good fighting knife is

[00:30:16] is a good move.

[00:30:17] But if you don't know how to use a

[00:30:18] fighting knife, you know, that's

[00:30:21] also stupid. You're going to end up

[00:30:22] getting stabbed with your own knife.

[00:30:24] You know, you don't want to get

[00:30:25] shot with your own gun.

[00:30:26] You don't want to get stabbed with

[00:30:27] your own knife.

[00:30:28] You know, that

[00:30:30] anything that comes down to home

[00:30:32] defense, any weapon you use, you

[00:30:33] want to know how to use it.

[00:30:34] You know what I mean? It's a

[00:30:36] weapon is useless.

[00:30:37] If you're an idiot and you don't

[00:30:38] know what the fuck you're doing.

[00:30:42] You know, baseball bat is great.

[00:30:44] And that's that standard.

[00:30:45] People keep baseball bats near

[00:30:47] there near the front door all the

[00:30:48] time. Golf clubs, you know, pipe

[00:30:50] branch any any good

[00:30:53] swinging item.

[00:30:54] But, um,

[00:30:55] you know, I know

[00:30:57] I know people joke about keeping a

[00:30:59] sock on the end of your baseball

[00:31:01] bat, right?

[00:31:02] In case they grab it, at least

[00:31:03] you get one more one more swing.

[00:31:05] Yeah, right?

[00:31:06] Slides off the end and you're

[00:31:08] ready to go again.

[00:31:09] But I mean, you know what else

[00:31:11] would be good instead of a sock on

[00:31:12] the end of your baseball bat?

[00:31:14] Maybe you throw a bunch of

[00:31:15] Finnish nails into

[00:31:17] the end of your baseball bat.

[00:31:19] And I don't think they're grabbing

[00:31:20] it when it's all

[00:31:22] nice and quickly.

[00:31:23] Yeah. And two, that

[00:31:25] porcupine stick.

[00:31:29] Might be effective means

[00:31:31] of, you know, taking

[00:31:33] down a predator.

[00:31:35] We'll say that.

[00:31:37] Yeah. No.

[00:31:38] I mean, some people have

[00:31:40] nothing. Some people have nothing

[00:31:42] in their house and, you know,

[00:31:44] they're not worried about it.

[00:31:45] The doors are locked.

[00:31:47] They're fine. They're safe.

[00:31:48] They're safe. Nobody has ever

[00:31:50] broken down a door.

[00:31:51] Nobody has ever picked a lock.

[00:31:52] You know, they're going to be

[00:31:53] fine.

[00:31:55] You know, if you

[00:31:58] don't want to learn how to use

[00:31:59] a weapon and

[00:32:01] you don't want to have one in

[00:32:03] your house because you're,

[00:32:04] you know, some sort of hippie.

[00:32:06] You know, have

[00:32:08] one of those dogs that eat people.

[00:32:10] I have one. It's, you know,

[00:32:12] great.

[00:32:14] The Amazon driver won't even come

[00:32:15] past the edge of my driveway.

[00:32:17] It's right.

[00:32:18] You know, exactly.

[00:32:20] They just, you know, throw

[00:32:22] the package out the door as they

[00:32:23] drive by and run for it.

[00:32:25] Yeah. But maybe that's just

[00:32:26] what it was a little more about

[00:32:28] you.

[00:32:29] And he's like, I know this guy,

[00:32:31] Jerry Rose, the package.

[00:32:33] That sounds about right.

[00:32:35] Yeah, I almost had to.

[00:32:37] I wasn't home the other day and I

[00:32:40] came home and was raged after I

[00:32:41] talked to my wife because

[00:32:43] some asshole from up the street

[00:32:46] pulled up in front of my house

[00:32:47] and started yelling at the Amazon

[00:32:49] driver because he was driving too

[00:32:50] fast.

[00:32:51] And I know who this asshole is.

[00:32:53] I don't like him. I don't like

[00:32:54] him in my neighborhood and I don't

[00:32:56] like him in my front yard.

[00:32:58] And I probably would have set the

[00:33:00] dogs on him if I was at home.

[00:33:01] But, you know,

[00:33:03] the wife is a lot nicer than I am.

[00:33:04] So she let it slide.

[00:33:07] I don't know.

[00:33:08] I should go down and bang on this

[00:33:09] fucking door and have a talk with

[00:33:11] him. But that's

[00:33:13] besides the point.

[00:33:14] He didn't actually come into my

[00:33:16] yard. He just parked in front of

[00:33:17] my house. And, you know, that's

[00:33:18] enough for me to be irate.

[00:33:21] But, you know,

[00:33:22] now it is what it is.

[00:33:23] Same thing. So you have,

[00:33:26] you know, pepper spray, that

[00:33:27] kind of stuff that, you know,

[00:33:29] mace, whatever bear spray,

[00:33:31] don't don't spray that for the

[00:33:33] first time when you're dealing

[00:33:35] with somebody.

[00:33:36] Don't spray in your house.

[00:33:38] Your house, it's just not a good

[00:33:39] go to, you know, maybe if you're

[00:33:41] cracking your front door and

[00:33:43] blasting the guy in the face.

[00:33:44] But I got to say, cracking,

[00:33:46] cracking your front door just

[00:33:47] sounds like a bad idea because

[00:33:50] you're just like giving them

[00:33:52] another entry point, right?

[00:33:54] You know, you crack that front

[00:33:55] door or somebody's plowing

[00:33:56] through it. And or at least

[00:33:58] you have the risk of that

[00:33:59] happening.

[00:34:00] Whereas the dead bull buys you a

[00:34:02] couple of seconds.

[00:34:04] Plus when you're telling the

[00:34:05] court, oh, you know, I open

[00:34:07] the door.

[00:34:10] Then that's not really

[00:34:12] exactly what you want.

[00:34:13] Lawyers repeating in front of a

[00:34:15] jury. Right.

[00:34:17] Because right now you're inside

[00:34:18] your dwelling and people have

[00:34:20] some kind of fantasy that

[00:34:22] people can't just kick through

[00:34:24] a door in a minute.

[00:34:25] You know, they're like, oh,

[00:34:26] I'm safe inside,

[00:34:28] you know, behind my secure locked

[00:34:30] doors.

[00:34:31] You know, that's the fantasy

[00:34:32] that everybody always has.

[00:34:34] But you know, I

[00:34:37] used to do construction.

[00:34:38] I remember getting a call from a

[00:34:40] lady. I went over to her house

[00:34:42] and they had this big, elaborate

[00:34:44] front door. You know, it was

[00:34:46] like one of those five thousand

[00:34:47] dollar setups with the big

[00:34:48] windows over, you know, over

[00:34:50] top of it and along the side.

[00:34:51] And it was a whole big thing.

[00:34:53] And somebody

[00:34:55] I could see the footprint, one

[00:34:56] footprint.

[00:34:57] Somebody just kicked in the front

[00:34:59] door with the foot went inside.

[00:35:01] It used to be a business and they

[00:35:02] went inside looking for

[00:35:04] where the safe used to be in the

[00:35:05] house. They could follow the

[00:35:06] footprints on, you know, the muddy

[00:35:07] footprints, you know, through the

[00:35:09] house to the closet where there

[00:35:11] used to be a safe.

[00:35:12] And yeah, it was

[00:35:14] just just one dude

[00:35:16] kicked it one time.

[00:35:18] And that was it. Five thousand

[00:35:20] dollar dollar door destroyed.

[00:35:22] And it was, you know,

[00:35:24] you have to be aware that

[00:35:28] your front door probably isn't as

[00:35:30] safe as you think it is.

[00:35:31] It's not that hard to

[00:35:33] push a door in.

[00:35:34] You can make your door safe,

[00:35:36] but it's probably not

[00:35:39] as safe as you think it is

[00:35:41] if you haven't done any

[00:35:42] alterations to anything.

[00:35:43] Right. So just be aware of

[00:35:45] that. It's not it's not

[00:35:46] difficult to get into somebody's

[00:35:47] house. Now I do have

[00:35:49] exciting news

[00:35:52] this year, Prepper

[00:35:54] Camp twenty twenty four

[00:35:56] to North Carolina out in the

[00:35:58] mountains.

[00:36:00] And turns out

[00:36:02] I'm going to be a speaker there

[00:36:04] talking about EMPs

[00:36:06] and and, you know,

[00:36:08] possible cyber attack stuff

[00:36:11] talk about what's

[00:36:13] going on in the world and what

[00:36:14] kind of things are out there.

[00:36:16] You may want to check it out,

[00:36:18] get a ticket.

[00:36:20] It's pretty cool. It's basically

[00:36:22] three day event where

[00:36:25] you have kind of nonstop

[00:36:27] speakers.

[00:36:28] What they do is they actually

[00:36:30] it just keeps growing where

[00:36:32] they have like four tents going

[00:36:34] on.

[00:36:35] And I think there's like eight

[00:36:36] speakers a day in each tent.

[00:36:38] I mean, it could be even more

[00:36:40] than that.

[00:36:41] And basically they give

[00:36:43] the same speech three times

[00:36:44] a day and each, you know,

[00:36:46] each hour block in each tent

[00:36:49] and then so the idea

[00:36:51] is you can pick and choose the

[00:36:52] ones that are a priority to you

[00:36:54] and go learn all the cool skills

[00:36:56] and they have awesome skills

[00:36:58] for, you know, all kinds of

[00:37:00] stuff, you know, blacksmithing

[00:37:01] and different things, you know,

[00:37:03] to talk about and learn about

[00:37:05] skin and animals and, you

[00:37:06] know, really everything

[00:37:08] prepper related.

[00:37:10] The whole thing is kind of run

[00:37:11] by Rick Austin, who is the

[00:37:13] food for a sky.

[00:37:14] He's the secret gardener

[00:37:16] survival.

[00:37:17] So he's there.

[00:37:19] He's given lectures.

[00:37:20] There's awesome stuff.

[00:37:22] It's something you guys may want

[00:37:24] to check out.

[00:37:25] Turns out that

[00:37:27] tickets and stuff sell

[00:37:29] out way faster than I,

[00:37:31] you know, I thought they would

[00:37:33] and whatever.

[00:37:34] You can still get tickets,

[00:37:35] definitely staying

[00:37:37] at the campsite on site is tough.

[00:37:41] It's, you know, I mean, as far

[00:37:42] as availability, so you may

[00:37:44] want to look into it and act

[00:37:45] quick if if that's

[00:37:47] something you'd be interested in.

[00:37:49] Plus there's hotels and stuff,

[00:37:51] but it seems like it's

[00:37:53] pretty big deal and there's a lot

[00:37:55] of people who are, you know, into

[00:37:57] this. And it's just an awesome

[00:37:58] way to connect and, you know,

[00:38:00] talk to people and

[00:38:02] get to know people who are

[00:38:04] like minded and looking for

[00:38:05] stuff like you're looking for.

[00:38:08] That's something, you know, you

[00:38:10] may want to consider and

[00:38:11] check out. I know I'm excited

[00:38:13] to do it.

[00:38:14] I definitely set it up that we're

[00:38:16] going to have a booth there.

[00:38:17] I don't think I can drag Kevin.

[00:38:19] I keep trying to talk them into

[00:38:20] it, but I'm going to have a booth

[00:38:22] there where you can come over,

[00:38:24] maybe get some prepping bad

[00:38:26] ass gear. But we also

[00:38:29] I just want to talk and hang out

[00:38:30] with people, you know, how much

[00:38:32] are the tickets?

[00:38:34] I think right now you get in on

[00:38:35] the early bird. I think they're

[00:38:37] like sixty five bucks each.

[00:38:38] And I think at most they're

[00:38:39] like 100 bucks and that covers

[00:38:41] the whole weekend.

[00:38:42] I mean, you know, they're 100

[00:38:43] bucks at the end, you know,

[00:38:44] like few way to the last minute.

[00:38:48] But yeah, prepper camp

[00:38:51] is the answer.

[00:38:52] It's prepper camp dot com.

[00:38:53] You want to check that out?

[00:38:54] Like I said, it'd be awesome.

[00:38:56] You can come meet the guy in

[00:38:57] person, right?

[00:38:58] And that's what everybody's

[00:38:59] looking for.

[00:39:00] And the thing is I can probably

[00:39:02] talk about guns and not get

[00:39:03] booted off the stage.

[00:39:05] So that's yeah.

[00:39:06] Yeah. So that just happened

[00:39:08] about 20 minutes ago on this

[00:39:09] podcast and right.

[00:39:10] You just got off the YouTube

[00:39:12] off the YouTube stage.

[00:39:13] So, you know, it happens,

[00:39:15] happens to the best of us.

[00:39:17] So, you know, who knows?

[00:39:19] They don't like guns, but it's

[00:39:20] weird because I keep reading

[00:39:22] their their policy.

[00:39:24] And they said as long as you

[00:39:25] don't take apart and disassemble

[00:39:27] guns and you don't change

[00:39:29] magazines, they're really worried

[00:39:30] about magazines for some reason.

[00:39:32] And they're worried about,

[00:39:35] you know, the I don't

[00:39:37] know. But basically as far as I

[00:39:39] know, we didn't violate anything

[00:39:41] of their standards.

[00:39:43] But somehow, you know, that's

[00:39:45] how the world works.

[00:39:45] It doesn't really matter,

[00:39:47] right?

[00:39:48] Worried about the lives because,

[00:39:51] you know, people are going to go

[00:39:52] shoot something up in a live

[00:39:53] situation.

[00:39:54] You know what I'm saying?

[00:39:56] And that's like the go to

[00:39:58] I think talking about

[00:40:00] the special, you know, the gun

[00:40:02] that I would use or whatever is

[00:40:04] where we went wrong.

[00:40:05] They're like, oh, there's a gun

[00:40:06] on the show. But I don't know

[00:40:08] how many times have you seen

[00:40:09] people shooting guns on YouTube?

[00:40:12] I was just watching YouTube

[00:40:13] watching people shoot guns before

[00:40:15] the.

[00:40:16] But I think I think the live

[00:40:18] is where it gets scary and

[00:40:19] terrifying.

[00:40:20] So, you know, but that's

[00:40:22] all right. So we'll get that

[00:40:24] straightened out or we won't

[00:40:26] whatever, you know, life's a

[00:40:27] bitch deal with it.

[00:40:29] But prepping

[00:40:31] prepper camp dot com

[00:40:33] is where you want to get tickets

[00:40:34] and check that out.

[00:40:36] I waited so long.

[00:40:37] I should have warned you guys

[00:40:38] earlier about it, you know, so

[00:40:40] you could get tickets and get in

[00:40:41] on it early. But I was waiting

[00:40:42] till everything was firmed up

[00:40:44] as far as me being

[00:40:45] there and having the

[00:40:48] having a booth.

[00:40:48] And, you know, once that all got

[00:40:51] set up and organized, then I,

[00:40:53] you know, here I am telling you

[00:40:55] about it. So with

[00:40:57] that, you can check

[00:40:58] us out at prepping bad ass dot

[00:41:00] com. You have questions, concerns.

[00:41:18] com.
