[00:00:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to the Survival and Basic Badass Podcast, Kevin Inchuck.

[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Today, well we're going to talk about hobbies, skills, maybe trades that are beneficial to

[00:00:29] [SPEAKER_01]: being a prepper, right?

[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_01]: To the whole ready for the apocalypse but also kind of make life enjoyable.

[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_01]: One of the things I've been talking about lately is that you know the big thing is

[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_01]: you don't want to get so caught up in your prepping that you're living for some fantasy

[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_01]: future that very well could never happen, right?

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't, you know who knows, right?

[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what tomorrow brings but you know they say it's better to plant trees

[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_01]: you know for the future because that's the wise man kind of thing.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_01]: You know you hope for the future, you also play for the long term and so anyway with that

[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that there are a lot of ways that we could be working towards our prepping goals

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: while at the same time building up skills and enjoying life and enjoying life is the case.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's work that nine to five kind of slave job that you know you don't want to be doing.

[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I mean to me my job is not my dream you know like what I could wake up and do

[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: like I don't know maybe my dream would be going out every day or then I'd probably get tired of that

[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_01]: you know get tired of the whatever.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: We all have things that you know we love doing maybe it's working on the shooting range

[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_01]: or doing that kind of thing.

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_01]: You know tactical training right hanging out with buddies maybe that's the dream

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but the bottom line is there's a lot of things that we could do

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_01]: that could put money in our pocket develop our skills and be hugely beneficial in the end of the world.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's kind of go through it what do you got Kevin what's number one in your mind or where do you want to start?

[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_03]: Well one of my my favorite hobbies actually is hiking you know I'd like I like getting outdoors and

[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_03]: and get things moving get the blood pumping a little bit and you know that's always to me

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_03]: that seems like a good skill to have you know navigating you know getting from here to there

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_03]: with you know compassing the map and figuring it all out carrying everything you need with you.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_03]: One of my favorites I don't know how important it is for prepping but I think

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_03]: I think it's definitely a valuable skill to have.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_03]: Another one of my favorite things doing is camping you know I like camping getting out outdoors using

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_03]: my equipment you know that sort of stuff what's your favorite hobbies Chuck?

[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_02]: So I don't know I think I'm leaning at the moment when I think long term you know career

[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_02]: kind of thing and obviously I'm at the point where I should have already figured this out.

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of thinking like the retirement play is more like wood shop you know is fabricating and

[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'm not not a craftsman right but I also can build quality sturdy think more like Amish

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_02]: than beautiful right I know some people think Amish stuff is beautiful I think it's solid

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_02]: it's not necessarily intricate or ornate right maybe not my expertise but I can build solid

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_02]: and so like that's one of the things I've been thinking about like slowly I have a

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_02]: decent piece of property I have you know a tractor that I do the farming stuff with

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: with pallet forks and I'm like thinking you know you can buy those sawmills for like three grand

[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_02]: four grand they're not a big deal um but you're gonna have to uh you know I was like I could

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: just set up a wood shop I have my own wood I have millions of pallets that I have access to

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_02]: and I could just kind of be building things all day and I'm like yeah that might be

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_02]: the way out right that I can get away from working for the man now always seems like

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_02]: the biggest obstacle that you always face with all these things is health care right you can't

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_02]: you know everyone's like well I can't quit my job because health care well one keep your wife

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah yeah that's fair she has the job with the health care and then you do everyone

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_02]: that so far hasn't been my experience so now since I can't angle that one

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna see if I can't get the VA or somebody to cover my health care you know yeah gotta be

[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_03]: somebody out there somebody will do it for you you know yeah yeah I mean really the trick is to

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_03]: just you never get sick never get hurt or sick and then you're all right you know maybe I should

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_03]: just eat less and move around more yeah I I paid for health care for for 10 for 10 15 20

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_03]: 20 years at least now and they've gotten a lot more money from from me than I've gotten from them

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_02]: you know yeah that sounds accurate right they don't know I don't know it's crazy world

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_02]: um now another skill that might be pretty useful and pretty cool is uh what about fishing

[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_02]: like I mentioned in the beginning you know running a fishing charter

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe uh you know maybe it's making lures or that kind of thing you know developing the skill

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_02]: doing fishing tours even if you know taking people in the outback up to track trout creeks and

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_02]: different things and you know whatever that's awesome you know you can do all different

[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_02]: different things out there um next thought Kevin what do you got uh radio communication this is a

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_03]: this is one that I've never really gotten into uh ham radios and I think a lot of a lot of people

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_03]: do that this is a hobby and you know people that aren't even you know preppers or anything like that

[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_03]: you know people just do it for fun um you can make a decent amount of money selling equipment

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_03]: and helping people get set up with the equipment I think that's the big thing is coming in and

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_02]: setting up people and obviously I'm sure you could kind of be the trader like I'm sure that's like

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_02]: a skill in itself but just searching you know Facebook Yard or Marketplace and you know

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Craigslist and whatever if you're the guy who knows what things actually are and can set people up

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah you might be able to find the deals you know sometimes you find those antenna towers

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_02]: and they're like a hundred bucks and sometimes they're like five thousand bucks you know yeah

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and you're like well they're the same you know it's just people don't know what they have right

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_02]: a lot of the time that's the case I mean that's that's definitely a skill um but yeah ham radio and

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_02]: even just like getting qualified to teach the classes or run that I know a lot of the places do

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_02]: that kind of thing for free but people also have you know you set up a Facebook group

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_02]: a website and you maybe uh you know you market a course to get people trained up or something like

[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_02]: that that's definitely you know a neat way to do it and still turn around and uh and do that another

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_02]: big one that's very popular in the the prepper community the way that people talk is uh you

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_02]: know blacksmithing right yeah nostalgia thing you can make cool stuff sell it at like

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_02]: farmers markets whatever yeah there's a lot of uh plus if you're really skilled it's not an

[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_02]: ability I have but I imagine they have that whole Etsy thing and all the other websites that you

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: could sell your you know horseshoes or whatever it is that you make that's trendy and clever

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_03]: yep yeah I think uh you know I see those for sale a lot of the antique shops and stuff

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_03]: in my town they you know guys and girls I suppose will make you know make stuff up and

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_03]: and sell them right there in the stores right in the local stores here now one of my uh

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_03]: one of my favorites for this type of thing hobbies that that can you know help you out

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_03]: after after uh the shitheads the fan or just uh just to save a little bit of money is uh gardening

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_03]: a lot of people um talk about that uh a lot of people do that in the uh you know in the prepping

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_03]: world um you know maybe you're not saving a lot of money on vegetables but you're definitely

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_02]: getting good quality produce you know I mean that's one of the big things is we talk about

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_02]: health and if you grow the stuff yourself without the pesticides and whatever it's funny my wife

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_02]: you know yeah you guys have heard me mention she's always doing the farmers markets and selling

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_02]: flowers and stuff and we grow a lot of our own well most of our own produce however she'll get

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_02]: stuff from friends or will buy meat from the fellow butcher well if anything is she's been talking

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_02]: to them and half of them are using as many chemicals as you're getting at the freaking

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_02]: grocery store and she's like yeah we can't buy bad vegetables from them anymore you know

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_02]: can he die that's not yeah so you do have to be careful of that but that's the the point you

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_02]: know if you grow your own stuff or whatever you know exactly what it is what's in it and yeah and

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_03]: and if you're you're comfortable with with pesticides on everything and you you know you

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_03]: can spray all your vegetables all you want if you want to or you can be 100 organic you know

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_02]: exactly there used to be that show up my name is Earl

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_02]: they had Christian Slater on there one time and he was at some kind of hippie commune and whatever

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_02]: you know and Earl's freaking out that he has to run around trying to save the planet you know not

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: throwing out garbage and everything stressful and Christian Slater's like look man it's funny

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_02]: because he has that whole like stoner attitude he's like yeah it doesn't have to be like that

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_02]: you just do a little better each day and then he's like should I eat an apple every day and he's

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: like don't eat that shit those things are full of pesticides don't kill it and I'm like yelp that

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: sounds right I mean I don't know I try to be all conspiracy stuff but damn if we don't put chemicals

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_02]: on every damn thing you know yeah it's easy um and it just honestly I mean that can't be good

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_03]: no matter how you look at things I got some uh a couple weeks ago I got some um really expensive

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_03]: hot dogs boar's head like they didn't have any of the night traits or any of that stuff in there

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_03]: uncured and tell you what man those those night traits must taste amazing because these hot dogs

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_02]: weren't not as good it's always that msg shaker you know that yeah you said yeah um and I would

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_02]: expand you know being a farmer uh I would expand that to one like traditional farming

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_02]: but also homesteading um you know you can get to the point where you live a very off-grid lifestyle

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean to be honest if we're all honest with ourselves if we kind of got rid of all our crap

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_02]: like our fancy car and our you know sold our stuff you could probably go buy a piece of land

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_02]: somewhere now not a land with a fancy house maybe or whatever I don't know but hey right now we're

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_02]: living in some fantasy world where everybody has equity in their home maybe if you sold it you could

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_02]: go buy a piece of land with cash and you know buy one of these 20 000 dollar buildings to throw up on

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_02]: it and you know 10 000 dollar found you might be in it for 50 grand is what I'm getting at right

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_02]: and then you could kind of be self-sustaining where you sell some animal skins and some whatever

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_02]: it's a fantasy life but it also could be real turns out people do do it you can get out of the rat race

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_02]: but I don't know if you can get out of health care I don't know how that works if you're if you are

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_03]: thinking about selling your house now's the time to do it because this is this is the right market

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_02]: three months ago was the time yeah yeah I mean you're right at the cusp you're still there

[00:13:06] [SPEAKER_03]: longer you know I think values uh home values are gonna start dropping soon the word climate comes to mind

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah so I mean that's a thing now maybe you're like me like I actually like gunsmithing I just am not

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_02]: to legally gunsmith you need to involve the ATF in your life a whole lot more than

[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm really excited about doing so I don't see that in my future you know as a uh as a business

[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_02]: but uh that could be something you could get into also something like I could do you could run some

[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_02]: kind of tactical training course right yep that's definitely something you could do uh or even just

[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_02]: you know a lot of places have a uh a uh required class to get a concealed carry that kind of

[00:13:58] [SPEAKER_02]: stuff you can teach those classes you could probably get a uh a trooper or somebody to work with the

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_02]: income fingerprint people pretty sure you could figure out how to fingerprint people it wouldn't

[00:14:09] [SPEAKER_02]: be that hard turns out um but uh that kind of thing you could definitely find ways to make money

[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_02]: basically playing with guns and or you can just join the navy seals or the rangers or something

[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_02]: guns too it's yeah whatever and you get free healthcare with that maybe this is all just a

[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_02]: big pitch to join the military maybe that's you know where you guys need to be right maybe that

[00:14:36] [SPEAKER_02]: and I probably wouldn't I mean I think they now well you gotta you gotta age limit I think we've

[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_02]: both aged out of that at this point with me I'm talking about the the younger people out there

[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_03]: mm yeah another thing I'd tack on to that would be um like uh airsoft and paintball you know that

[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_03]: sort of stuff is is you know decent training you know it's fun to do you're not going to make a

[00:14:59] [SPEAKER_03]: whole lot of money doing that you know unless you're selling the the gear and equipment um

[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_03]: now one of the other things that I think it's overlooked a lot is foraging um you might not

[00:15:12] [SPEAKER_03]: be able to to you know have access to a lot of places I you know I've got a pretty good force

[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_03]: you know right around me and it's very easy to uh to get out there and and collect some

[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_03]: mushrooms and some plants and some berries and stuff and that's not really worth a lot of money

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_03]: what is worth the money in this area is uh people will go out looking for um uh for ginseng

[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah and uh it's not legal technically to go around and dig it out other people's yeah yeah

[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_03]: but uh you can make a decent amount of money doing that and uh morel mushrooms are real big in this

[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_03]: area and you can make a decent amount of money if you can find a good batch of that yeah no

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_02]: that's it if you can recognize what's out there you know and that's thank you and I know

[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_02]: people who just like off bees make a ton of money or off off mushrooms kind of thing you can even

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_02]: find ways to kind of like run out your land to the bee guy you know to throw it in the back

[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_02]: or that kind of thing um oh that's an option but you you got to just kind of think outside the

[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_02]: box a little bit and it might help you get closer to the life that you want I mean I gotta say

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_02]: that's kind of you know prepping and and everything that we do is really a lifestyle

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_02]: and I think you know finding ways to be creative and make your life better and more enjoyable

[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_02]: is is definitely a good way to be you know it's what I wanted to do this episode I wanted to

[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_02]: you know talk about the different options that you know you could do I mean maybe hey

[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe you make like a youtube channel now I've never had good experience with that

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it's because I can't keep Kevin from talking like a sailor or it could be that we

[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_02]: talk about things that youtube and everybody else doesn't exactly like shared over you know

[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_02]: we're not exactly politically correct I mean I look at Kevin and I'm like you know he's

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_03]: pretty politically correct but I'm a kind polite person and I don't know where you're

[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_02]: getting this bullshit from right you know I used to be when I was a little younger I was asked the

[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_02]: question can you say a sentence without using fucking it and I'm like of course I can't I mean

[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_02]: that's fucking ridiculous what are you talking about but anyway yeah I don't know uh you know

[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_02]: somebody mentioned you touched on foraging also going out for scrap metal and just kind of

[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_02]: junk collector and you know turning that stuff over especially if you have the possibility of

[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_02]: storing it for when the metals up and kind of dumping it you know at the right time but people

[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_02]: hustle I mean just the like free junk car removal everybody's got junk that they would be happy

[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_02]: for somebody to come take away you know right I mean to be honest I go to the scrapyard myself

[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_02]: and I probably have about 50 bucks worth of metal laying around the yard that if somebody came over

[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_02]: it's like hey I'll get rid of that right now I'd be like okay yeah take it away go load your truck

[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_02]: let me help you load your truck you know that's does not exactly wrong yeah no I used to know a guy

[00:18:34] [SPEAKER_03]: that you know every every six months or so would buy a shitty van and we just go around to job

[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_03]: sites and go through you know dumpsters get permission you know and just load it up with

[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_03]: metal and and take it over and drop it off he said he uh hit a big score one time where they're

[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_03]: ripping off all the aluminum bleachers out of a school gymnasium yeah and he was able to just

[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_03]: load up you know hundreds of pounds of aluminum and uh you know and it helped the the construction

[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_03]: guys out because they didn't have to pay for as many dumpsters right and that's it because

[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_02]: they're paying to get rid of all that debris and construction debris is kind of expensive by the

[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_02]: pound when you go to the scrap you're you know to the landfill sorry right um they try and get

[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_02]: you on that whole construction debris thing um so they're not exactly opposed to you taking it

[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_02]: one of the things you're in in New York there and uh IBM is a big thing around where you are

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_02]: and I had a buddy there who uh used to go dumpster diving at IBM all the time no they frowned on that

[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_02]: at IBM oh they didn't like that been told but uh that didn't stop them or keep them for last I

[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_02]: knew he's still doing it and he'd go out with thousands of dollars do you know what this is

[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_02]: this is the and I'm like whatever man dude you're you do you you know yeah if you can find somebody

[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_03]: to pay for you know hey and the internet's great for that stuff you know yeah so yeah dumpster diving

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_02]: not a bad thing the big thing I mean like you watch YouTube like people are always like oh

[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll find the little hustle where I sell ebooks or whatever or get people to sign up for affiliate

[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_02]: stuff that sounds good but if you're willing to do some work there are some awesome tutorials

[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_02]: because that's the thing those are the ones that everybody overlooks like you know they say go where

[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_02]: the people aren't and then you'll find that you know not not where the customers aren't where the

[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_02]: sellers aren't right right because and people are afraid of work they always talk about the harder

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_02]: it is the less competition you're gonna have you know like if you're applying for scholarships

[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_02]: if you just put your name in and it's like a lottery a million people apply but if you have

[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_02]: the right of one page essay you know that number drops down yeah right and then when it's a 10 page

[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_02]: essay then it's like oh two people apply you know it's it's all relative and like I see guys who are

[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_02]: like oh yeah I buy this big 55 gallon drum of glue and I put it in a little containers this big

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_02]: and I sell it all you know there are two ounces and they sell them on amazon for a dollar a

[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_02]: piece and everybody's like yeah because I need two ounces not right five gallons and they find a way

[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean that's the thing those are the guys who are like hustling for bucks my fear is uh like I look at

[00:21:34] [SPEAKER_02]: all the easy like crafty carpentry stuff I'm like where do we find the market to sell it but

[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_02]: it's funny because my wife has a good friend who's like all about being like the Facebook

[00:21:46] [SPEAKER_02]: marketplace hustler and you know it's like I know everything I can and I'm like let me be your friend

[00:21:53] [SPEAKER_02]: you know exactly that's a good person to know let me hand you all this stuff you keep 50%

[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_02]: don't care yeah if you move it I can keep producing it because everything she sees I'm like yeah I

[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_02]: could get 50 bucks for that table and she's like I can get you 250 for that table and I'm like take

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_02]: it take it away and let's go uh gambling is gambling the answer somebody maybe uh if you

[00:22:22] [SPEAKER_03]: go to at it you know hey what were you gonna say one of the other ones that I uh I see you know a lot

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_03]: of people are actually into is is hunting and tracking now um obviously supplementing a lot of

[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_03]: supplementing your meat is is great you can save a lot of money with with hamburger costing like

[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_03]: four dollars a pound and you know prices are going up on meat and if you can supplement it yourself

[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_03]: that's great um another one though uh is is tracking you know and that's just something that

[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_03]: anybody can do you can you can you know uh start learning uh you know signs of uh you know

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_03]: animals bedding down uh recognizing tracks different types of tracks and that sort of stuff

[00:23:11] [SPEAKER_03]: it's great for um uh for trapping for beginning beginner trappers too you know doing that sort

[00:23:17] [SPEAKER_03]: of uh tracking type stuff and uh you know it's a it's a fairly uh low cost hobby to get into

[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_02]: you know yeah well that's that's one of the things um you know and first you know same thing

[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but again furs are a very like seasonal kind of thing so I learned from my buddies you know they're

[00:23:37] [SPEAKER_02]: like yeah I sold all these beaver furs for two thousand dollars this year and then the next year

[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_02]: I sold them all for four hundred with the same amount you know it's yeah and then can you hold

[00:23:49] [SPEAKER_02]: them can you store them it's always a game well it's weird it's like china is buying all the furs

[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_02]: like really sell them these conventions and then they all go overseas like nobody in America

[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_02]: buys furs but that doesn't matter because there's a market for it and there's buyers who you know buy

[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_02]: up big bunches and then send them out it's pretty crazy there's a lot I'm always butchering the rabbits

[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_02]: and I haven't so far I've saved the furs and and done anything with that and people are kind of

[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_02]: giving me grief about it like what are you crazy you're not and I'm like well I could get a

[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_02]: mitt now to eat chwan and yeah well I mean really what is the value of a rabbit fur you know

[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_02]: six dollars up your skills Kevin maybe if you knew how to make it into something fun and creative

[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_02]: and and you can get people who are like oh it's so soft so soft I don't know you have to watch

[00:24:41] [SPEAKER_02]: the pee off it though first and that's what I'm trying to do all over themselves yeah who knows

[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_03]: all right uh next one I got on my list is archery um I know there's a lot of bow hunters in my area

[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_03]: you know it kind of goes with the hunting thing um but there's a lot of people that uh

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_03]: you know get into it and you know start selling and and and you know stringing bows and

[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_03]: setting sights on bows for other people um there's a there's definitely a market there

[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_03]: you know uh the cost of a lot of the the Hoyt bows and stuff now are you know it's astronomical so

[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_03]: you know so it's not a bad thing to get into for a little high side hustle

[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_03]: but you know it takes a lot of practice archery isn't one of those things that uh

[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_03]: you know you can pick up and and get moving right away with you know you got to do a lot of work

[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_02]: to get that uh get that skill under your belt right now exactly um yeah one of the things uh

[00:25:44] [SPEAKER_02]: you know somebody mentioned maybe I should get into uh making those Russian hats you know with the fir

[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_02]: do you ever see that side build where they were taking up they're making them out of

[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_02]: what they call that nutria or something and it was uh the rats they're making the hats out of

[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_02]: the rat fur I don't know sorry I just I'm saying hey you got to find a buck wherever

[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_02]: you can make it right that's that's always the answer um I don't know it's an ugly world out there

[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe have you ever considered moonshine now you're probably thinking well beer making because

[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_02]: that making moonshine that just sounds illegal and it probably is actually that same agency that

[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm always trying to dodge with my guns I'd probably be inviting a bunch of trouble if

[00:26:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I was making moonshine as well so probably not a good idea but knowing how how about me right

[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_02]: maybe you you're hanging out at the Renaissance fair and and you figure out how to utilize some honey

[00:26:47] [SPEAKER_02]: and and make me maybe that's the skill you need maybe get your own bees you start making alcohol

[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_02]: you learn to do things just saying there's options out there yeah so somebody um uh

[00:27:02] [SPEAKER_03]: was watching one of those true crime uh documentaries and this lady had uh going on the uh the dark

[00:27:09] [SPEAKER_03]: web and ordered uh Mercer Mercer which is a disease that you I guess yeah and she was like

[00:27:17] [SPEAKER_02]: infecting some people with it you know and uh paid I mean I didn't even think like kill

[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_03]: her for hire as an option well the thing was though when they went to go question her

[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_03]: roommate they asked her if she brewed beer because apparently like keeping that bacteria alive and

[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_03]: and you know making more of it it's a similar similar skill set I didn't realize that but I mean like

[00:27:43] [SPEAKER_03]: you know you can go right from uh brewing beer into chemical warfare or biological warfare so

[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_03]: you know it opens up a whole world of options can I recommend bleach um you clean your stuff

[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_02]: before you go and use it that might be an option that people might want to look into I don't know

[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_02]: there there's a million ways to hustle out there and it's basically find out what you're interested

[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_02]: in and find out who's you know it's funny that's actually what you know got us into doing

[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_02]: this podcast when Kevin and I first started it it was you know hey Kevin's in the hiking and outdoors

[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and camping and getting out there doing it I was in the guns and and guns and guns and you know that

[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_02]: kind of thing and then I was in the guns so there was that and you know you just go and

[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_02]: you develop a hobby around what you love and what you like to do and at first one of the

[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_02]: big things was we were able to get um gun parts and all this stuff uh one of our early sponsors

[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_02]: was TACPAC which was awesome they have like a monthly fee and then they send you out a box

[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_02]: like these you know the meat boxes and the different things um and they would send out

[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_02]: gun parts and they were very generous and sent out lots of uh you know awesome things and then

[00:29:11] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like man I have all these gun parts I need to start building guns because what else am I going

[00:29:18] [SPEAKER_02]: to do with it right then we got a bunch of uh companies you know we did triggers and different

[00:29:23] [SPEAKER_02]: things you know I'm always like I always keep trying to do a episode on optics you know like

[00:29:30] [SPEAKER_02]: thermal scopes or scopes and I can never get any of the companies to go along with that they're

[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_02]: like yeah a little bit higher price right there look through it and then you have to send it back

[00:29:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'm like yeah that doesn't sound like me right yeah but there's always you know things out there

[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_02]: um I guess it's the show grows so we can maybe get a little better and whatever that's why you need

[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_02]: to be like and subscribe and share it you know make sure you're subscribed to the page that

[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_02]: would be awesome um you know like it when an episode comes out that's the kind of thing

[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_02]: that can get us more sponsors that could get us you know um you saw we we did some commercials

[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_02]: with the show and then uh I backed off a little bit because I just kind of found like people might not

[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_02]: like that and I tried to back off but if you get us some sponsors that we talk about on the show

[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_02]: then we can have a lot less commercial stuff and do that kind of thing yeah just saying

[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah now one of the other things I got on my list here is uh car repairs um you know that's definitely

[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_03]: a skill you know it's definitely something that you've won yeah yeah but I mean you can save yourself

[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_03]: a lot of money um or you know I know a lot of people that just will do that as a hobby for friends

[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_03]: and make a little bit of cash on the side um that's definitely something that uh when

[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_03]: shit goes down will be a valuable skill you know having having that sort of stuff

[00:31:00] [SPEAKER_03]: in your back pocket is definitely something that's going to be helpful right um no exactly uh

[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_02]: you know one of the other you know the comments mentioned uh you know the lead from batteries

[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_02]: when you're out scrap metal and you know if you're doing the auto car part repair stuff

[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_02]: that's huge you know you're you're coming across this stuff you're changing batteries for people

[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_02]: you're doing it and the stuff's just coming into your lap and then hey you know the car won't start

[00:31:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I can't afford to fix it you gave me bad news oh you have a trailer and you could just get rid

[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_02]: of that for me no problem you head over to the scrap yard you know I mean that those are the

[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_02]: kind of things it's thinking outside the box and sometimes it's hustling a little bit like you know

[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_02]: you got to have three things going on and I'm not saying we need to be chasing dollars but uh

[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_02]: you know that's not a bad way to be uh there's that show mountain men right one of the guys

[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_02]: in the mountains in uh in north carolina I think it's Eustace he's this guy's running

[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_02]: like classes on how to be off-grid and foraging and woodworking and different things he has all

[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_02]: these different classes but then he's also selling lumber from his trees then doing tree removal

[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_02]: and doing that kind of thing and thing is you do the tree removal and then you have the

[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_02]: wood that you can saw mill and you know do that kind of stuff and you can get a lot going on with it so

[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_02]: there's ways that you can make money on both ends and turn it in something good now I'm not saying

[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_02]: you know everybody likes insurance and oh I'm worried about somebody taking down a tree and oh

[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_02]: it'll fall in my house and I'll get sued and whatever all right that's fine maybe that's

[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_02]: not the right one for you maybe you're scared if you're scared that's all right that's you do you

[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_02]: but you know there's always something out there that you can hustle for and and you know turn up the

[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_02]: next thing and that's the thing is kind of I guess my push is I want people to kind of

[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_02]: live the life you live you could be like our buddy darin over at mayhem country livid who

[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_02]: made a youtube channel and he's just out there doing it stuff enjoying life every day

[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_02]: and making stuff now you know he's got a face made for the camera I mean Kevin not so much

[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_02]: so you know you're kind of stuck right you have options that are available to you like you know

[00:33:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Kevin and I might be good working at the fish market you know yeah yeah there you go yeah

[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_03]: no I've got a face made for radio and a voice made for silent film but whatever just got a

[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_03]: key pushing through um let's see you know one of the other ones that I uh I'm looking at here

[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_03]: that I have on my list is uh is cooking and you know everybody cooks right everybody has to

[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_03]: do some some sort of stuff like that you know every everybody likes to eat now and then

[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_03]: but um what I'm talking here is kind of uh cooking from scratch you know what I mean if uh you know

[00:34:19] [SPEAKER_03]: if you give me a pound of flour a pound of sugar and some water I don't know what the

[00:34:24] [SPEAKER_03]: fuck I'd do but my wife could turn that shit into some you know something amazing to eat magic so

[00:34:29] [SPEAKER_03]: yeah it's you know some people have better skills than others at that sort of stuff

[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_03]: and and baking and cooking um you know it's really a pretty pretty straightforward

[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_03]: uh way to save money on your grocery bill for sure um another one is uh raising chickens

[00:34:47] [SPEAKER_03]: um a lot of people uh a lot of people do that now it's like uh turning into a real hobby but it

[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_03]: seems like um you know the price of eggs keeps going up you know I remember as a kid

[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_03]: you know you get a dozen eggs for a dollar and now it's nowhere near that anymore you know

[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_03]: so you know it's that sort of stuff um you know little extra work can save you a lot of money

[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_02]: yeah no and that's it it's just thinking outside the box and and you know finding ways I don't

[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_02]: know I just wanted to like inspire people to kind of you know maybe get into the life that you want

[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_02]: to live instead of working for the man with nonsense it doesn't have to be that hard and

[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_02]: it's funny people always you know I always hear people say well what if you had a heart attack

[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_02]: and the doctor said it's too stressful for you to go to work anymore and whatever and you had

[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_02]: to find a way to make it work how would you do it and it's kind of like that it's you know sometimes

[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_02]: you need the nudge to push you over the edge you know a lot of it is like you'll see these creative

[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_02]: people with edgy and stuff like that selling stuff and making a decent living or people with youtube

[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_02]: channels is it's like oh I just became a single mom you know your your mom and maybe things

[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_02]: turn out the way you want or whatever and it's like I need to find a way to be with my kid

[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_02]: and you know do that kind of thing and you get forced into this situation but I think the more

[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_02]: you keep an open mind and just think about options look for opportunities um welding right uh

[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_02]: getting a plasma cutter you can do all kinds of good stuff where you're making creative stuff out

[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_02]: you know the big thing is I always find it hard to believe with like the plasma cutter and the

[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_02]: cnc machines that kind of thing I feel like that stuff's had expensive to ship or it's large if

[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_02]: you're going to make money with it it's tough you got to have a market and find it but

[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_02]: you know hey you do you right I mean there's always a way and obviously welding you know

[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_02]: fabricating people's trailers and doing little additions I'm always looking I can make metal

[00:37:02] [SPEAKER_02]: stick together but I don't really have skills right like I'm looking I'm always talking to one of my

[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_02]: buddies who I know he makes like big camping rigs in the back I like my buddy at a Rubicon or

[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_02]: something and this guy like made a big slide out camping thing with you know a sink and like

[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_02]: different you know it's all like a nice metal frame to make it awesome and that's kind of stuff he

[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_02]: does and I'm like hey you know the back of my truck that bed you could do a little patchwork

[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_02]: there that would make my life a lot easier um another thing you know if you really want

[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_02]: you could just sell blood and sperm right isn't that the yeah easy way out I think that you

[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_03]: have to be over uh six foot tall and have a certain IQ though to actually make your sperm

[00:37:52] [SPEAKER_02]: valuable yeah I've also heard if you're young and healthy they like you could sell your poop right

[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_02]: have you seen did you see that uh I didn't know anything about this now oh there's the thing

[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_02]: so you can make like a hundred grand a year selling your poop to these companies that use it

[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_02]: because they like the bacteria and they actually you don't even want to know what they do with it but

[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_02]: because it involves other people buying poop all right all right you know you do you right

[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying there's options out there now they want young and healthy so it's probably not me

[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_02]: but you know that other guy might be out there and you know hey there's options I wasn't just coming

[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_02]: up with any way to make money I didn't say desperate I said ways to enjoy your life but maybe you're

[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_02]: somebody who likes to play with poop you know I don't yeah I mean maybe you're into that sort of stuff

[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_03]: I think they call that a fecophiliac so I mean some people are into that um you didn't get proper

[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_03]: potty training when you're a kid and now you've got mental health issues but whatever you know

[00:38:57] [SPEAKER_02]: that's not your fault yeah now there was a yeah South Park episode and uh you can that's a real thing

[00:39:05] [SPEAKER_02]: though if you google like can I sell boy poop for money or something we'll find it and it's like

[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_02]: big money right they pay because they want like a monthly plan or weekly plan where you're selling

[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_02]: and out there they're sending somebody by to pick it up and you know rush it right out you

[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_02]: gotta get into it you know you do you um but there's there's options out there I just I'm just

[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_02]: saying be creative think outside the box find a way to do you and kind of create the life that you

[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_02]: want and that's that's the way to be because honestly spending time with your family spending

[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_02]: time with people you care about or at least doing things that you love doing is going to make

[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_02]: life better and yeah I just kind of want also wanted to point out that there's a lot of ways

[00:39:54] [SPEAKER_02]: that you can you know uh further your prepping life without you know blowing your budget you

[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_02]: can actually turn it into something positive I think right that's what it comes down to

[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_03]: so and I would love to uh I would love to hear you um all your guys ideas on you know what

[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_03]: are your side hustles what are the stuff that that you make money doing um I would love to

[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_03]: hear more about that stuff leave leave some comments and uh let let us know that would be it now yep

[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_02]: there are options you know I'm seeing a lot of things you know that you could do um hey you

[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_02]: do you that's all I can say you know there's a market for guys like me I'm just saying but

[00:40:37] [SPEAKER_02]: you know there's also you can sell your socks on ebay I think that's a thing you're so

[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_03]: that was a creepy one I've seen that and that that seems creepy uh I had a friend that got into

[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_03]: that and they said uh it was actually a lot more work than they thought selling their dirty socks

[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_03]: because people wanted videos of them wearing the socks and like doing things with their

[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_03]: sucked feet and uh it got overly creepy for him to me just selling plain sweaty

[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_03]: socks to people is overly creepy but uh his limit was a little bit higher

[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_02]: now that the show had to take a turn for the worst

[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_02]: here we are I digress so show ideas thoughts concerns questions you want to tell Kevin to
